upgrade processor

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I would like to ask something I can't find anywhere. If someone could answer me I will be very grateful.

1 - How could I know how is the faster and powerful processor I can use to replace tha intel t5750 I have in my dv9930us (dv9700, s/n: {Removed for privacy}, p/n: FE779UA#ABA)?

2 - Is there any possibility to upgrade the 4GB RAM to more than that in this notebook?

Thank you.

Paulo

Re: upgrade processor

Hi, Paulo:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01951704.pdf

Supported processors can be found in Chapter 1,  page 1.

Your notebook has the Mobile Intel 965 chipset. Theoretically, you can install 2 x 4 GB of PC2-6400 memory for a total of 8 GB.

You need to be running a 64 bit operating system for 8 GB of memory to be of any use to you.

See this post below regarding the possibility of doing so.

Re: upgrade processor

Thank you so much for answering. Now I will upgrade this machine. I am really grateful.

Just one more question, about this second part:

"Your notebook has the Mobile Intel 965 chipset. Theoretically, you can install 2 x 4 GB of PC2-6400 memory for a total of 8 GB.

You need to be running a 64 bit operating system for 8 GB of memory to be of any use to you."

PC2-6400 is 800MHz. Won't it be problematic? Is the 667Mhz from the PC2-5300 original ram memories the max supported? Otherwise, I will change it tomorrow. : ) (800 vs 667 MHz)

Thank you again, Paul.

Re: upgrade processor

Sorry, Paul, now I see.
Did I undestand? If I change the processor t5750 (667MHz) for the T7700 (800Mhz), I can use PC2-6400 (800Mhz).? I am the most noob one. Tks.

Re: upgrade processor

You're very welcome.

That is correct.

Right now the processor and memory run at 667 MHz (even if you had 800 MHz memory in there now, it would run at 667 MHz).

If you change the processor to an 800 MHz FSB one (T7700 for example), if you had PC2-6400 memory in the PC, it would now run at 800 MHz.

If you were to take the chance on the 2 x 4 GB chips, then you should get the PC2-6400 speed, so everything runs at the max of 800 MHz.

I would buy one 4 GB chip at a time to make sure they work.

Re: upgrade processor

I will.
The processor, the memories and the thermal paste are not here yet, but as soon as they arrive I will proceed the changes and then I post back.
It will probably take 2 or 3 weeks,
Bis da.
