Re: upgrading hard drive on hp pavilion dv3500 series

Hi,

Based on its specs, it uses SATA HDD that means you can use normal SATA HDD - I don't know why you want to  use 5400rpm, there are many better HDD's around with 7200rpm.

Regards.

Re: upgrading hard drive on hp pavilion dv3500 series

Thanks for the responses banhein, I choosed 5400rpm, because IMO HDD with 7200rpm produces more heat and power than HDD 5400rpm.

Re: upgrading hard drive on hp pavilion dv3500 series

SATA I (1.5Gb/sec) and SATA II (3Gb/sec) are backward and forward compatible as part of the SATA standard. This means between the hard drive and chip set (mother board)  the transfer rate will be at the slower SATA interface of the two.

The Service Manual documents support of 500GB hard drives from the factory, but this does not mean a 1TB drive will not work. I think a 1TB drive will work. My biggest concern is thickness of the hard drive. Will a 12.5mm thick drive fit in the DV3500 and slid into the connector. I'm not sure. you would be better off checking you current HDD thickness and getting a 9.5 mm hard drive.

Toshiba MQ01ABD100

WD Scorpio Blue WD10JPVT

1TB 5400RPM 9.5mm x 2.5in

Seagate Momentus STBD1000100

1TB 5400RPM 9.5mm x 2.5in

Samsung Spinpoint M8 HN-M101MBB

1TB 5400RPM 9.5mm x 2.5in

WD Scorpio Blue WD10TPVT

1TB 5400RPM 12.5mm x 2.5in

It would appear your looking to maximize the storage capacity of your laptop w/1 bay. 1TB drive will accomplish that. The 1TB drives available for laptops are 5400RPM hard drives.
