564xl black cartridge will not print on my HP Photosmart 5512

The 564 black cartridge which came with my new 5512 printer ran out of ink.  I replaced it with a 5512xl black cartridge, but it won't print the black on documents.  I replaced that one with another, same problem.

I would use this document it has some other solutions to try such as checking the print settings and checking to make sure that the cartridges is properly vented in the printer.  Here is that link

Also, I am  including another link because of the of the step 4 in this document that goes over manually cleaning the contacts inside the printer. Sometimes ink can build up on the printer contacts and prevent a proper fit. Also old ink can clog nozzles and I wanted to include a document that gives you some step by step walk through on cleaning the printer parts by hand and lists the correct cleaning materials to use on it. hi i am having this problem as well and i cant seem to get it working i tried and tried and its more like wasting my color ink! i just bought them too i been having my printer i had just not bought new ink in a while

I am having the same problem! I have tried all of the of the suggestions in the troubleshooting section and the black ink will not print. It appears on the HP site as well as on the packaging for the cartridge it reads the catridge can be used with my HP 5510 but on the Staples site it says that it does not. Help!

I went to the Staples website and I see they are selling two different types of black ink.  One is the HP 564XL Black which should work with this printer.  The other is the HP 564XL Photo Black which works in my really old Photosmart printer but is not used in the Photosmart 5510.  My printer requires 5 cartridges for it to print.  Verify you do not have the Photo Black and let me know if you are still having problems with the regular black ink (my links above will help determine the difference).  

Are you getting any error messages?

Have you printed the Print Quality Report within the printer's Tools? Any defects on that page?
