Black ink not working after 2 tries in HP6500

Black ink stopped working after showing still half full.  Returned to store and got a new cartridge.  It worked for about 3 days then no black ink again.  Have cleaned print heads and aligned but still no black ink. The other colors work fine.  Can it be that two ink cartridges  are not good or is something wrong with printer that is 2 years old (HP Officejet 6500 All-in-one)?  HELP  Any other suggestions?

Re: Black ink not working after 2 tries in HP6500

mah52276,

Click here to see a detailed description of the following steps for Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues.

Solution one: Use genuine HP cartridges
Solution two: Allow automatic servicing to complete
Solution three: Check the paper
Solution four: Check the print settings
Solution five: Check ink levels and replace low or empty cartridges
Solution six: Print and evaluate a Print Quality Diagnostic Report
Solution seven: Replace the problem cartridge
Solution eight: Replace the printhead
Solution nine: Service the All-in-One

You may also what to see this thread on HP Business Inkjet 1100dtn first wouldn't print at all, now prints magenta and some black and cyan about soaking a printhead in hot water.

After the black ink was not printing even when the black ink cartridge was half full and replacing the black ink cartridge print allowed black ink printing for about 3 days then no black ink again, the printhead probably needs to be cleaned.  Solution six step five has the steps for cleaning the printhead by loading paper into the paper tray and touching the wrench button on the front panel of the printer > right arrow > ok on tools > ok on clean printhead.
