C5180 Ink Cartridge Empty

[ Edited ]

Display says Ink Cartridge Empty.  It is not.  Works on another machine.  Tried printer reset but machine still will not work.  Worked earlier and would allow continue to print using other colors.

Re: C5180 Ink Cartridge Empty

Have you replaced your ink cartridges recently? if yes are they refilled ones or genuine HP cartridges? Have you tried installing the old cartridges again ? Do you get the same error?? Please let me know the results of the following steps..

Re: C5180 Ink Cartridge Empty

The ink I was using is a Cartridge World refill.  It worked OK when first installed, then later gave a message that ink was gone but I could continue printing using other colors; then a bit later said cartridge was empty and wouldn't let me print at all.  I swapped this cartridge for a new genuine HP but still get the empty message and cannot print.  The Cartridge World unit works OK in my neighbor's C5180.

Re: C5180 Ink Cartridge Empty

You are facing this issue just because you hav been using refilled ones. Though it works sometime but we always advise our customers to use genuine HP cartridges to avoid such issues..Please try installing the old cartridges again and check what happens.

Re: C5180 Ink Cartridge Empty

OK we did that.

The previous screen message indicated that the Dark Red cartridge was empty so that was the one I was swapping around.  I went to the Tools, Display Ink Gauge screen and that indicated that the Light Blue was the empty one rather than the one the machine had been telling me.

I swapped out the Light Blue cartridge and now the printer works.  I know there are fancier names for the colors but I can never remember what they are.  When I was a kid, my Crayola box only had 8 crayons in it and all the rich kids had 16 or 24 so they probably learned the fancy color names.

Thanks for the help.
