CP1700 - fault - attn: replace all four ink cartridges!

Hi everyone

My printer has served me VERY well for years. I have original cartridges (all within use by date), and the printheads all test ok

The printer just reported all four ink cartridges need replacing

Clearly something else has just broken, or got dirty...

Any clues what I might try?

FIXED

I suspect the battery has dropped below fully-functional voltage - its an old printer!

FIX = completely remove the internal (large) watch-like battery

Here's what to do to remove the battery

Lift top cover, look on the left side (opposite side to the cartrige and printhead areas) , it's just visible toward the back. I couldn't quite get at it (safely) so decided to go in through the back, as follows:

BAttERY REMOVAL PROCEDURE = From the rear of the printer remove the rear feeder by depressing both big buttons and lifting away from the body of the printer. Next remove the right darker grey cover (where all the cable connectors come through) by removing two T-20 Torx head screws, one on top and the other under the feeder tray you just removed. Slide the grey cover back about an inch and then it will pull completely out. Under that cover you will see a metal plate mounted vertically that has three T10 Torx screws that you will need to remove. Once you have done, wriggle and tip that plate (slightly) out (careful no to dislodge any cables or connectors), just enough to see the battery. Using a small screwdriver, prise the battery from under its retaining arm. THROW IT AWAY. Resemble in reverse!

My printer is now fully functional again - although it currently grunts more than it used too - I suspect I've dislodged some dirt/dust - anyway it looks like it'll continue serving me well for a while longer
