Cannot print pictures

My C310a has four small ink cartridges and one large black cartridge. My small black ink cartridge is out of ink. Can pictures print using the other three color cartridges and the large black one? I can print word documents in black but cannot print a color picture even though the paper feeds through as normal.

Hi. The smaller black ink cartridge is the Photo Black cartridge. It is needed to print pictures.

Thank you very much. I went to buy a cartridge and got the right number but it is too big to fit the space allocated. When I can go to town again (35 miles) I will buy another.

 I am always glad to help. The symbol of photo black should look like a little Bow Tie and the regular black cartridge has a symbol that looks like a pentagon.
