Compatible (???) Black Print Cartridge for Deskjet F4580

I purchased a Sainsburys own compatible ink cartridge and for several pages it was fine. That was until the printer ran out of paper during a print run. After refilling with paper the F4580 simply refused to carry on printing which it said was due to an incompatible cartridge, the same cartridge that had been working fine seconds before.

I then ran a self test by pressing and holding the Power & Cancel buttons for a few seconds then releasing them and the self test page printed ok.

Here is the laughable but extremely frustrating bit - my report showed a lovely thick black bar and the text of the report was in rqually lovely black ink but the ink levels bit showed the cartridge as empty.

I have tried removing and reinstating one then both cartridges, removing the power supply by the recommended method and still no joy.  The only possibility left that I can see is that the printer has been instructed to reject any other than HP original cartridges which is not stated anywhere in the sales patter.

I have been a loyal HP supporter for many years and have recommended them several times but after this I will have a rethink.

 I would be happy to add a positive update to this post if anyone can tell me how to force my printer to recognise the cartridge.
