Documents only come out in a faded blue ink

I have a HP Deskjet 990cxi pro series that after loading the cartridges prints my black and white documents in a faded blue ink. i have gone into settings and selected black only and it still prints this faded ink. Is this a cartridge error or a printer error.

Cameron, check out this document: Missing Color, Wrong Color, or Streaks in the Printout 

 

See if that helps resolve your issue. If not post back with your findings or it anything changed.
