Graded bands on photo prints - HP 7520 Photosmart

Hi,

I'm experienceing a problem printing photos with my new (less than 1 month old) 7520.  All my photos are printing with perpendicular bands (equivalent to the appearence when printing in draft mode) no matter what settings I choose.

To prevent the usual "go to the troubleshooting page" message, I have:

1. Used HP Premium plus photo paper

2. Used genuine HP ink cartridges

3. Ran a clean cartridges cycle

4. Ran an align cartridges cycle

5. Changed all the cartridges

6. Selected the correct paper size, type and print quality in the print menu.

7. Ensured the print resolution is high enough

8. Printed via Wireless, USB connection and USB memorystick directly connected to the printer

Have I just bought a duff printer?

My previous Photosmart 2575 could print high quality prints.  As this is the latest iteration of the photosmart range, what could be wrong?

Hello cliftos2000, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I see you are experiencing photo print issues.  I would love to try and help you, but I do need a little information first. I am linking a few HP Support documents below that will show you how to find which operating system you are using. Also, if you're using Windows, please include whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit. With this information we can provide you with accurate information.

Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

Also, what type of photopaper are you using?  Does this occur when printing photos from multiple programs?

Please let me know what you find.  Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

Re: Graded bands on photo prints - HP 7520 Photosmart

Hi Jamieson,

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit.

The print issue occurs when printing from Photoshop, Bridge, Windows Image viewer and even when the images (TIFFs, JPGs and PSDs) are printed locally from a USB pendrive plugged directly into the printer.  Additionally, I have connected the printer by both Wireless and USB cable and the problem still occurs.

Hope this helps!

Re: Graded bands on photo prints - HP 7520 Photosmart

Hello Simon,

What type of photopaper are you using?

I would suggest Uninstalling the Printer Software.

Once it is uninstalled, I would suggest putting your system into clean boot mode within the Microsoft configuration.  You can do so by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.

Once the computer is in clean boot mode, I would suggest reinstalling the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.

Please let me know how that goes.

Re: Graded bands on photo prints - HP 7520 Photosmart

Hi there,

Apologies, I forgot to include paper details!  I'm using HP Primium Plus Glossy photo paper.  Just in case it makes a difference, as I am printing A5 and A4, I use the main paper tray rather than the photo paper tray.

I'm reinstalling the software - I'll let you know how it goes.

Nope, still the same problem.  I doubt it is the software, as the same problem occurs printing directly from the printer's drive slots.

If it helps, the lines are approx 2 - 3mm apart.  Busted Printhead maybe?

Re: Graded bands on photo prints - HP 7520 Photosmart

Hi Simon, and thanks for response.

I would recommend removing the cartridges and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.

I would also recommend following the steps in this document on Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality Problems.

Please let me know how it goes.

Re: Graded bands on photo prints - HP 7520 Photosmart

Hi Jamieson, still no joy.

The only two options now left are order a replacement printhead, or have it serviced.  As it's under 2 months since purchase, I assume it should be covered under warranty!

Kind regards
