HP 6110 Remove and Check Cartridge issue

HP6110 all-in-one on Windows 7. Turned on in the morning, off at night. Started showing "Remove and Check Cartridge" message about a month ago. Black cartridge replaced. Color cartridge replaced. (Others were pretty new anyway.) Followed directions given in the forum on similar complaints in the past. When the color cartridge is out (and the message is "Insert left cartridge"), the printer will print B&W from the computer, but not from anything laid on the glass. The 6110 is out of warranty. In following the directions on power changes (with and without holding the "3 and #" digits), cleaning the contacts both on the cartridges and in the printer, only twice in the past month has that worked. HP website indicates my software is current. Internet shows this to be a common complaint going back at least four years. Any HP or user-developed solution out there?
