I am using a 6500 wireless printer. The printer has been in storage for 5 months. The cartridges were removed and placed in my refrigerator. Upon reinstalling the cartridges the printer seemed to print; but there was no ink on the paper. I cleaned the print heads several times. The level of the color cartridges went down significantly; but the black cartridge did not. I replaced the black cartridge with a newly purchased one. The problem persists. Test pages show all the color but no black. The Copy/Black button gives the same results. That is: the printer appears to print each line but no ink gets to the paper. It is blank.

I am having the same issue, although the printer i own is a new one, about 2 months old. plenty of black ink still, printer doesnt get used to often. done all diagnostics on the printer through the wrench menu. although the black ink never shows up on the paper. i have taken the cartridge out of the holder and gently touched ink pad with my finger an ink shows so its not dried up or anything like that etc, many people seem to have had a similar issue the last few days, yourself with the black and others with the blue/cyan.....
response from a staff member would be greatly appreciated on next course of action for this issue as there is nothing else to do from here other than to take it back for a replacement.

I also have this problem as of today. If I change a document's font color from black to red, the document prints, but it will not print in black. I changed the cartridges, checked for updates, reinstalled the software, nothing works. PLEASE HELP!!!

Same issue here ... black started to fade then nothing ... changed to a fresh 920XL cartridge but still nothing. Ran thru clean (both stages) and alignment ... still nothing

There seems to be a lot of users with this problem. So far there are no suggestions as to how to fix it. Can someone from HP please try to answer this?
The 7500 user got a new print head (carrier?). Is there such a thing for the 6500? My printer is two years old. Surely it is out of waranty.

Same issue. Clean heads, color prints fine. New black cartridge won't print black. Issue with scanner too, it won't scan to PDF, just blank pages. So frustrated...

I'm having the same problem. Two days ago - after consistent daily use of the printer - a page I printed slowly faded from black to nothing. I've replaced the black ink cartridge, cleaned the print heads several times, checked the vents on the ink cartridges and attempted alignments (failed 3 or 4 times). No black ink will print. It seems odd that several people have had this problem suddenly happen at the same time. Please offer a solution!

I too suddenly cannot print with black ink. i replaced the colored and black cartridges. I am getting colored ink. I have tried numerous solutions offered on the internet including, wiping the print head, saoking the print head, running multiple printhead cleaning cycles via my hp6500 officejet all inone printer. i have now spent better than a half day on this issue and consumed nearly all of the new colored ink! on occasion i would test the black ink and get one short email to print in black. the subsequent test minutes later only a blank page or text so faint it could not be read.
several months ago i had an issue with no printing...cleaned the print head and it seeems to have worked fine until now.
what options are left? i have spare new colored cartridges i hate to throw away if i need to buy a new printer. my printer is 4 yrs old though only used for the last 3 as it was in storage for nearly a year.
are there new hp printers using the 920 cartridges?

Same problem here......suddenly, the 7500A stopped printing black. I changed cartridges, cleaned printhead and realigned over and over again, removed printhead and cleaned contacts manually....if I scan and print or copy something in color or change the text in a document to red, it all prints fine BUT THE BLACK INK IS NOT PRINTING. My printer is less than a month out of warranty. I called HP an they said my warranty had expired the dy before and the onlt help they offered me was for me to buy a new computer. When I do, it won't be an HP and I won't buy another HP computer either, Service sucks...I can't understand those asian women with their soft voices and strong accents anyway, not that they offered any help this time anyway.
I am absolutely disgusted with HP.
