HP Photosmart 2710 won't read color cartridge

I have an HP Photosmart All-in-One 2710 which will not read new color cartridge ever since I tried using a refurbished cartridge from 123 Inkjet. I returned their ink and bought brand new color ink but the printer will not recognize it now. Did the refurbished cartridge ruin the sensors and is there a way of fixing it.

So when you say the printer won't recognise the new cartridge, are you seeing any particular error message?

You could try cleaning the printer carriage contacts & cartridge contacts

When I turn on the printer it tells me to remove and check the color cartridge. I've tried cleaning the ink cartridge and the heads with water and with rubbing alcohol but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

I really think that the refurbished cartridge did something to the printer because our cartridge that was running out of ink was working just fine before I tried the other one. :/

Hi

If the new cartridge is giving the error message, and you've tried all the usual troubleshooting (such as cleaning the cartridge contacts, the printer carriage contacts & resetting the printer), then it sounds like the problem could be with the new cartridge. Does the old one that's nearly out of ink work ok? (ie: doesn't show an error message) If so, I would suggest contacting HP Phone Support for a replacement cartridge. You can first check the warranty ends date. See links below

Thanks for responding to my problem.

The new cartridge and the one that is almost out of ink were both getting the error message after I tried that other ink. Unfortunately I misplaced the new cartridge so I can't test it out anymore. I don't know if it's worth buying new ink now if something else is wrong with the printer. I replaced the black ink the other day and it's still working properly (probably because I didn't put that other ink in that side.)

Yes I've cleaned the contacts and the ink. I guess my next step is to get it repaired or buy a new one.

I have the same problem. I had the ink cartridges ( both black and color) refilled.  Put them back in and the black is recognized but the color is not. get the error message that says REMOVE AND CHECK COLOR CARTRIDGE. So I ended up buying a new hp color cartridge. tried that one and still same message. I have also cleaned  both contacts on the cartridge and the printer itself.  I am also unable to print in only black and white. I can't do any thing at all because I can't clear the error message off the screen. I don't think  the cartridges are the problem. I have already spent a good amount of money on ink.   how do i fix this problem?

Have you tried re-setting the printer?

You should have an option to print in back-up mode (with only the black printing)?

I've never used a generic cartridge or a refill kit.  I have a genuine HP cartridge in there, and a few weeks ago it was printing fine.  Suddenly the next time I went downstairs it had an error message and there is no way out of it. 

I tried cleaning everything off in case it was just gunky and that was the problem.  I also tried to get it to run through a cleaning too, but I can't get it to do anything but flash the stupid orange exclamation point and beep. 

Any ideas?
