HP Printer Officejet Pro K550 **black won't print**

Hi Folks.   Got this printer from a friend.  I have it hooked up to a Dell Studio 17 laptop with Windows 7 and USB cable.

Printer will not print black and white documents. I don't know anything about diagnostics and haven't tried to clean the printer heads as yet.   Any advice/guidance appreciated.  As far as I know all the ink supplies are OK..there are 4 of them..  I have not weighed the black one and don't know what a full weight or volume should be.

I have same problem with c309a.

I replaced all the ink with genuine HP ink cartridge all color and photo black print but the large black on white simply does not print.

I don't know if any one from HP is monitoring this.

I ran the diagnostic toolS all the diagnostic tools available from HP still no solutions.

OK. Thanks for the diagnostic sites.... I was able to run the printhead cleaner on this unit....made a lot of funny noises, took at least 2-3 minutes to run and in the end it just printed out the test page with the MS color logo.  The black cartridge doesn't appear to be empty but I don't know how much one should weigh when full or partially so.  Any ideas??

Same here.  I've run all diagnostics - am now on my 3rd printhead - latest is only 2 months old - am at the end of my tether with this machine.  Next one I buy won't be HP.

 Hey JulieRBC---Is this just the B/Y printhead you're replacing?  That is an expensive situation if you've purchased 2 new PHs.  Can you go to the printer and hold the on/off button and tap the Resume button 4 times to get a complete diagnostic page?  Also, on that same page if you want to do a really thorough online cleaning of the PHs hold the on/off button down and tap the Resume key 7 times.  This will take awhile and use a fair amount of ink.

Are all your print cartridge lights OFF.  If any are blinking you can't print anything and if any are on that means the ink is low.  You don't mention your Black 88 cartridge.  Is it XL or standard.  You can get remanufactured ones on line for about $10. 

I took my B/Y printhead off the machine and flushed the nozzles with hot water to make sure all were open and then dried with hair dryer.  Also cleaned the contacts on the printer  with 91 isopropyl alcohol and q-tip.

Wiith some additiional online cleaning--2-3x I got a working printer but the configuration page( press on/off button and hold while tapping Resume button 10 times) tells me the B/Y PH is in just FAIR condition..the other PH is GOOD.

Pen cleaning is done by holding down the on/off button and tapping the resume 6 times.

Hope some of this helps.  I wouldn't spend any more money on this printer....I took mine on as a challenge not because I needed a printer but now I've purchased a new BY PH and some additional ink cartridges and I'll either sell or keep as a backup.  Mine has only printed 11 reams of paper and I got the printer free cause it wouldn't print black.  This big dude is a workhorse and probably not needed as a home printer.

Mine is working great and I have new BY printhead and new B XL and Y cartridges to add to the mix.
