I have an HP deskjet 3070A (CQ119B 3611a) which is working well, except I am not able to see an estimate of ink levels.

 

My computer is a Sony laptop running Windows 7 64 bit, Firefox browser, with AVG antivirus, and Zone Alarm.

 

I originally auto installed the printer with the CD, and it would not show ink levels. After a day or so I lost the wireless connection, and reconnected via the CD and USB. Since then I have had no trouble with the printer but am still unable to get  an estimate of ink levels.

 

Have had an error message –

“unable to communicate with the network device. If you  installed this printer by IP address  you may need to update the IP address . Use the ‘update IP address  item in the Start menu entry for this printer.”

Using the diagnostic utility it showed the printer IP address  to be 192.168.0.2.

Even if I knew how, I didn’t want to mess with this!

 

Looking on the HP website and forum I realized there may be a problem with Win 7 showing ink levels, and that ‘HP Director’ may offer an answer. I have been unable to find a download for this.

 

Can you help?

Yes, Windows 7 has some "in-OS" drivers that are fine for most things, but to show ink levels you really need to download the HP driver. Use this link to get your driver:

Thank you. The reply from MaryChris has sorted out the problem and I can now see ink levels.
