Hi rgvonk

One possibility is that the refilled ink has damaged the circuitry in the cartridge, meaning the printer can't "read" the cartridge type.

Original ink vs refills

I'm presuming you're using refills? If so, sometimes the refill stores offer replacements if you get cartridge rejection issues like this.

I am indeed using refills. I have used these for the past 6 years without a problem. 
It had already crossed my mind that the circuity was damaged, but when I bought a new remanufactured cartridge I still had the same problem. What could be the problem?

Ok, so maybe there's something up with the printer carriage contacts (preventing a good connection with the cartridge so that the printer can read what cartridge type it is)

Have you tried cleaning the printer carriage contacts?, as maybe there's some debris there....

How could I clean the contacts? What should I use?

Hi rgvonk, sorry for the delay in replying.

You can use a swab or something that doesn't shed fibres. Some folks use coffee filter paper.

Dear Ciara

I thought this worked because it printed the alignment page, but then it couldn't align and then it said that the cartrigde was incompatible again.
I now tried using an original hp cartridge but that also did nog work. Do you see another sollution or is my printer finished?
