New 8100 to replace 8600

Hello - bought new 8100 to replace 8600 pro printer - (print system failure  - 3 months out of warranty)  - after replacing new ink cartridges for 8600. Put new 8600 cartridges into new 8100 didn't work. I have now put setup cartiridges  into 8100 and now "unprotected". What can I do?

Re: New 8100 to replace 8600

I now have a 8600 printer out of warranty -but only  months - with brand new ink cartridges - and brand new 8100 - with Setup cartidges - "Protected CArtridge installed"

Re: New 8100 to replace 8600

The Officejet 8600 defaults to "protecting" the cartrdiges.  Once a cartridge has been "protected" it cannot be used in a different printer.  I do not know of any workaround for this.

There are a few things to try - you might contact HP and see if they can exchange the cartridges given the circumstances.  If you are in the US call 1-800-HPINVENt, elsewhere see the contact information here.

Do you still have the 8600?  It may be possible to fix the unit.  Have you gone through the troubleshooting steps in this document?

Re: New 8100 to replace 8600

OK - just to make sure I understand - the new Officejet 8100 will work with the setup cartridges but not with the protected cartridges?  In this case I would use the setup cartridges but also call HP and ask if they can do anything reasonable about replacing the protected cartridges.

After you call please post your results here, I may have some further avenues if things do not work out.
