Officejet 7000 won't recognise cartridges

We have an Officejet 7000 wide format inkjet which we have been using for about 1 year. All 4 cartridge lights started flashing at the same time. If I try the utilities like printhead cleaning it says no cartridges are recognised. I've removed & re-seated all of the cartridges, they are all HP originals, this did not help.

 

The printer is not used frequently but worked OK last time.

 

OS is XP Pro SP3, no recent changes

Travis,

 

I have tried the solutions there already without success. All 4 cartridge lights started blinking at the same time so I do not think it can be the failure of a single cartridge. It looks like the printer can no longer detect that cartridges are there.
