Officejet K8600

I have an Officejet Pro K8600 that is having an issue with its yellow ink:

It claims that the ink cartridge is empty. If I remove, and replace the cartridge, it will print one page before it thinks it's empty again. When the problem first started, I changed out the old cartridge for a new one, thinking that the old one was empty. The cartridge currently in it is brand new, and definitely full. In fact, if the one page that it prints is the "Self Test Diagnostic Page" it lists the yellow ink as full. But as soon as it's done printing the page, it says that there is no yellow ink again. I have also printed one of the other test pages, which shows no lack of the color yellow.

I have checked both the cartridge and the slot in the printer to make sure that the contacts are clean and undamaged. Nothing looks wrong or damaged on either. So what could be causing this problem, and how do I fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Hello PCheviotC

I would suggest trying the following article. While it might seem like a different issue it may help resolve your issue.

Re: Officejet K8600

While that may very well fix this issue, I am unwilling to spend nearly half the cost of a replacement printer on what is just a potential fix. Sadly, it's a safer bet to just replace the whole thing...

Hi PCheviotC,

This is an interesting issue. Are you only getting the low ink message on the computer? or are you also getting a blinking led light pattern on the printer? If it is just on the computer then there might be a minor connectivity issue between the printer and the computer.

Re: Officejet K8600

Are you using refilled cartridges by any chance? I am just wondering if the chip on the cartridges were not reset so even though they are completely full they are still reporting to be empty. If these are brand new HP cartridges and you got both sets from the same store I would recommend to call tech support and see if they could help you get a replacement cartridge.

Re: Officejet K8600

I am using brand new HP cartriges. The printer, as well as all of the cartridges, were ordered from a retailer's online store, at different times.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since my printer is out of warranty, calling tech support would be a paid-for call, would it not?
