Officejet Pro L7580 Printer message that Cyan cartridge not intended for printer

We have had our Officejet Pro L7580 Printer since 2010 and it has worked fine. Nov 2011 we had the Windows XP OS replaced. Everything worked fine afterwards. Now the printer states that the Cyan cartridge is not intended for the printer. The printer documentation doesn't shed any light on the problem.

Actions taken: removed the cartridge and put it back in, turned the printer off/on; unplugged the printer and disconnected the USB cable from both the printer and the hard drive/outlet. Nothing has remedied the problem. The connection where the cartidge slides in looks fine.

When we turn the printer on, the date and time show in the display; however, all the ink levels show that they are out. The cartridges are new or nearly new, so are not low or out of ink.

Thanks for your help. Gobbledegoop

Re: Officejet Pro L7580 Printer message that Cyan cartridge not intended for printer

I have a similar problem with yellow on my HP C6180.  I replaced the yellow with a new one and it keeps telling me it is empty. It won't print.  I know it is not empty because a. it is new and b. I banged the new cartridge against my palm and yellow ink comes out.  Frustrating.  My Mom had the same printer with the exact problem with the yellow. She gave up and got a new printer.

Re: Officejet Pro L7580 Printer message that Cyan cartridge not intended for printer

I started having the same problem about a month ago.

I tried the same things - unplugging, remove and replace, etc. to no avail.

Anybody have other suggestions?

Re: Officejet Pro L7580 Printer message that Cyan cartridge not intended for printer

Independent Pea here again. . . I gave up after many hours invested and could not get it fixed without spending more money than it would cost for a new printer.  I purchased a new Epson printer.  I think it is very sad that such a small issue would require the waste of a perfectly good printer.  It is so bad for the environment and unnecessary.  HP should provide better support for such issues.

Good luck and I hope you can find a fix.
