I tried reinstalling software too.  This did not work for me.  Really frustrating.  I'll bet I spent five hours trying everyones ideas. It is time to junk it and start over.

Hey, I was having same no black printing problem. I unplugged printer and took out all cartridges and cleaned the little screen area where ink goes into printer with a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol. Put cartridges back in and ran "clean print head" function and printer is working perfect.

Hi, everyone:

I have a HP Officejet 6500 (non wireless) all in one printer.  The color inks are printing just fine, but the black is either printing very, very faintly or not at all.  Here is what I've tried so far, after reading several posts:

1) I took out the black cartridge, shook it, and put it back in.

2) I did the hard/dirty reboot by unplugging the device, the plug from the outlet, waiting 30 seconds, and plugging both back in.

3) I ran two iterations of the cleaning process.  All the colors printed fine, but absolutely no black printed

4) I cleaned the printer heads by soaking in hot water for five minutes, drying it, and reinstalling everything.  I then ran the head cleaner process one more time with the same results.

All ink cartridges are at least 1/2 full.  The printer was working just fine last week, but now it's not.  Anything else I can do?  I'm getting blank faxes from places, which is not helpful at all--and I can't print off my billing statements.

Thanks!
