Photosmart Premium C310a:- INK USE!

I've just been dounble checking the printer and it's out of ink again!!!!

Printed off a "Printer Status Report"  which is very worrying reading.

It states that I have printed a total of 478 pages.

6 borderless pages printed.

I have a box full of old cartridges that I collect to send away for recyling, I have just gone through this box and found the following, all of these since I bought the printer new!

3 x Yellow cartridges

3 x Cyan Cartridges

3 x Magenta Cartridges

1 x Black cartridge

1 x XL Black cartridge

1 x Photo Black cartridge

This is on top of the set-up cartridges that came with the printer!

This has to be some sort of joke, not a very funny one!

I could have bought a new printer when these cartridges run out and it would have saved me a fortune!

I just can't see how at a total of 478 pages I could have used that much ink, I don't use it enough or print out intensive graphics/photos to use that amount of ink.

Most of pages are standard black text with the odd spreadsheet.

I tried the one XL black but that must have dried up as when I came to use the printer it didn't print.

I have run these cartridges completely out, not just the error message being displayed but printing out the test page showing no ink left as well.

Has anybody else noticed the stupid amount of ink these printers use?

I have printed out another status report and all ink cartridges are now new with warranty ending in 2013(some hope!) total pages printed stands at 479.

I will monitor how many pages I get out of these new standard sized cartridges and come back with useage and types of pages printed out.

If it stays as bad as the last year then I  really have no choice but to buy another printer as this is getting way too expensive to run.

I just wanted other peoples opinions of ink useage to see if I had a problem.

Have you tried using Fast draft print modes & selecting to Print in Grayscale? (More detail in the link below)

Misleading at best--I'm onl getting 50-75 pages from an (allegedly) 250) page cartridge on my printer.

I'm an ex-employee who got the c310a as a "bargain" - or so i thought!!!

Ink usage on this printer is disgraceful at best, and daylight robbery in truth. However, I should have known better since its well known inside HP that its ink that keeps the big baby afloat.

I've just changed all FIVE cartridges and noticed that the magenta and cyan were already down by about a 5th BEFORE i've even printed anything (the others show full). I'm on my 4th set of cartridges (including the setup ones inbox), with 535 pages/ 52 borderless apparently printed.

I'll have to make the move away from this printer just due to it not being practical (let alone expensive) to keep changing cartridiges so very often.

I have an HP Photosmart Premium printer that uses #564 ink cartridges. Print jobs are few and far between and are usually small. Almost every time I attempt to print something, I am told I am low on/out of ink. Is this something that is characteristic of this printer/ink cartridge?

Very strange answer!

Not much good when printing out colour documents is it!

My old HP PSC2175 could print out loads of same A4 colour documents using best quality printing.
This C310a is a pile of junk and only has to think about printing something out to have used the ink!
