I bought "HP OJ Pro L7380 AiO" on Dec-06-2008 and took it out of the box on Dec-08-2008 and when I tried to install it, the very first time, I got the error:
The following printhead(s) has a problem: black/yellow[K/Y].
Edit (added this para):
(1.) I switched on the printer for the first time, and it was Not connected to the computer.
(2.) This error appears on the printer display after a few initial self-tests & setup messages.
(3.) I have tried removing & cleaning the Black/Yellow printhead & putting it back a few times, but it did Not help.
I used "The following printhead(s) has a problem" to search for info on the internet (Google) and found ONLY this complete phrase:
The following printhead(s) has a problem: black/yellow[K/Y].
This only means and confirms that the "Black/Yellow" printhead HAS a problem and HP has done NOTHING to address this issue. HP has NOT even bothered to warn / assist buyers at the time of purchase.
I called HP customer care and I have been told to take the printer to the service center. .. Out of the box and to the service center! It is so frustrating!
I have lost the satisfaction of buying a new product!
Is it FAIR that I buy a new printer, take it out of the carton and have to take it to the service center because it will NOT get installed?

Since you've owned it less than a week, can you not take it back to the store and exchange it? If you bought it online there should be a return period as well. Or you can call HP directly and tell them you want to return it if you have no way to take it back to the place of purchase.
Unfortunately, sometimes things happen and products are shipped out with defects. This happens to every manufacturer at some point. Take the printer back and exchange it.

Here is India, when the retailer sells such products with warranty, his responsibility is over. The customer care person, sitting somehwere, notes down the issue and directs you to go to the service center.
Is that why I bought it .. to take it out of the carton and hand it over to the service center?
Is my time Not valuable?
When you spend time and take a decision to buy a product, and buy it, you are only thinking that it will work just fine. Nobody is ready for a shock that it is going to come out dead! When you are all set to spend time and install it and print the first paper, and your see that the piece is good-for-nothing, what do you feel?
Its betrayal!
You feel cheated!!
I know its Not covered in the warranty (No on-site warranty), but HP ought to have the decency to have it replaced, if Not at my place, then at least at the retailer / vendor.
Its NOT my fault that HP shipped and sold a DEAD product.

I have had nothing but issues with my HP Officeject Pro L7590. I have only gone through one set of ink cartridges and now it says there are issues with the print heads. Seriously? How can this have issues already. I can' even use the darn thing.

My hp Officejet 7130 all-in-one that I bought in 2004 and didn’t use it doesn't make copies at all after I replaced Black and color original cartridges in May 2011. I thought the problem in the ink toners and bought the new ones in another stapple’s. Replaced again and got a message: printhead(s) are bad: black/yellow and so on. Then I was trying to find out HP repair shop in New York city – useless. No one!
HP site chat told me: HP Technical Support can be reached by calling 1-800-HPINVENT (1-800-474-6836) between 7:00 AM - 2:00 AM EST, seven days a week.
I made a call. The tech guy (Sam) said he cannot fix this problem trying to talk me into buy the new hp Officejet model at discounted price. But I have the new one I said, just give me the phone of your HP repair stores in New York city. They don’t have such stores, he said. Just go online (www.hp/support) to get instruction how to take off and clean up heads. It is really frustrating!
I wouldn’t buy any HP product after all!!!

I've had he same problem with the black/yellow [K/Y] printhead on my 7780. Unfortunately I'm out of warranty and wasted my money on buying two more printheads before I gave up. Plus, I'm stuck with a bunch of extra ink cartridges. My warning, if you buy an HP printer, don't buy any extra ink or printheads!

I just bought a printhead (Black Yellow) for my officejet Pro L7680. The warranty should expire on 2013/01/16 as per the packaging information. Three days after install, I have the same error discussed here ("There is a problem with the following printhead(s): BLK/YELLOW.
It' is frustrating to have to wait to contact support, and possibly have another printhead send to me.... GRRRRR!!!!
