I have a 3 year old C7280 and it stoped printing in black. I followed all of the steps in the trouble shoot procedures and it still does not print in black. I changed the black cartridge and still no go. Can some one help! I have Vista Home Premium as my operating system. I received a error message on my printer "print cartridge alignment failed" color prints OK!

The alignment will not be successful until you get the black printing again. The fact that you've now tried another cartridge could mean that this issue is with the printer.

Assuming you followed all of the troubleshooting steps found in this document:

If it's not in warranty, ask about the Trade-in Trade-up program. Using your printer as a trade in will get you the best possible price for a newer Photosmart.

I followed all of the procedures regarding the fix for alignment failed. Black color still does not print!

I checked out the trade-in procedure with HP. There are only 2 ink jets that qualify for a $ 50.00 rebate. I'll have to go shopping to see who has the best price and to see if it is worth the price.

Yeah I hear ya, sometimes the trade-in doesn't have much selection. Have a look on HP Shopping.com, I believe right now there's free shipping available with the President's day sale on. Take a look for clearance sales in your area too, I've heard some customers have gotten really insane deals like $50 for a 6500A from a Staples is the best clearance sale I've ever heard of, but they are a bit rare from what I've seen.

Did you mean that a place like Staples would take the printer on trade and issue a $ 50 credit as an example.
