cartridge problems

I have a 4280 and replaced a 60 with a 60xl as I was told they were interchangable but xl would print more pages.  Now I get incorrect cartridge error message.  Are they NOT interchangable????

Is your pritner the Deskjet F2480?  If you are in the US both the 60 and 60XL are listed as compatible for this printer.  

 

The troubleshooting steps in this page may help resolve the issue.
