how can i bypass ink low errors and print in black only?

i have a photosmart C6280 printer and i want to print in black only, but i can not bypass the "low ink" errors and "expired cartridge" errors to proceed. I have spent endless amounts of time and money chasing this problem and would like to keep this printer. can this be fixed?
