i don't get a low ink warning either on my photosmart 7510 or on my computer screen when ink is low.

This is the second time I have had ink cartridges run low with no warning on my printer screen or on my computer.  How do I get the printer to let me know?  I don't want to have an ink cartridge run completely dry and ruin my printer head.

To be sure, does the printer show there is still ink in the cartridge?

There may still be ink in the cartridge but the prints are starting to fade.

You can see if the cartridges are all the way empty by checking the ink levels.

Touch the ink level icon that looks like a drop of ink on the front panel of the printer to see the ink levels of each cartridge.

If the cartridges have ink in them and the prints are starting to fade then cartridges probably need a cleaning.

Touch the setup icon that looks like a wrench on the front panel of the printer > Tools > Clean Cartridges and make a color copy for testing.

I manually checked the ink levels via either the desktop or the printer touchpad, it showed yellow warning with exclamation marks indicating low ink levels on 2 cartridges.  It never showed up as a warning by itself as a popup on the computer or on the touchpad.  It's supposed to let me know, not me manually checking each time I print.

Great, thank you for your response and clarifying.  The printer is made to let you know that you are low on or out of ink before causing any damage to the print head.  Continue printing with those cartridges, it does not need to be changed yet.  The printer will let you know when the cartridges need to be changed due to being out of ink.

It isn't giving the warning - I only noticed the black was nearly gone because it only printed at about 10% the usage it should have - page didn't have enough fully printed words to even be legible.
