incompatible ink cartridge

HP photosmart c4483 all-in-one

 

Printer bought in South Africa using cartridges 140 & 141.  Back in USA I bought HP Tri-color 74 & 75 - said to be compatible with the printer.  Now I get an "incompatible print cartridge" message and no printing. 

 

What to do?

the printer cencor maybe damage, not the cartridge.
