Re: new black cartridge will not print

My black ink function has stopped working. New cartridges do not solve the problem. Color and greyscale work.

Re: new black cartridge will not print

I'm having the same problem with my HP Officejet 6500.  This is the second time it's happened. The first time I finally ended up replacing the black cartridge (which was only 1/4 used up) and that worked until today.  Now again, my black cartridge is still a good 2/3 to 3/4 full and it won't print.

Like others in this posting, I can't see the solution.  So I tried unplugging for 30 seconds but it didn't work.

Can someone post the solution again?

Thanks

Hi krcf, what printer model do you have?

Thanks, Ciara

Hi S23t

Have you checked the cartridge is vented properly?

  • If the cartridge has a clogged vent, try cleaning the vent with a pin.

Re: new black cartridge will not print

I have a C6180... the printheads are not removeable so they cannot be cleaned as suggested by HP forums. I can print in Greyscale and color... black just indents the page with an extremely faint grey. Also cannot use align printer function... says printhead may be damaged or clogged????

Re: new black cartridge will not print

Yes, I did check the venting, and I cleaned the contacts.  Nada.  So I did what some other users have suggested -- I took out the printhead and cleaned it under warm running water, dried it thoroughly (overnight) and reinstalled it.  Success!  I now can print with black in.  Unfortunately I keep getting an error message that the printhead is not aligned correctly (despite reinstalling it twice and running the alignment program twice -- which used up most of my ink cartridges (nice going HP) -- and I now cannot get my blue ink to print.  I'm extremely frustrated.  I loved this printer up until this problem started last month.

Re: new black cartridge will not print

I tried it all over a week, taking out the printhead, cleaning it under water, drying it, cleaning off the contact, making sure the vents were clear, turning off the printer via the plug, going through multiple cleaning/alligning cycles, until all my ink was gone and still nada. I've taken it off line and have replaced it with my son's idle 5500 (which has that problem with envelopes getting stuck), and am back printing again.

To replace the printhead would be $50 - $70, and then new cartridges, well you know how much they cost. I'd have to put over a $125 just to see if it would work. A new printer able to do the same stuff is $89 at Staples. Doesn't make sense to fix the 6500, though at less than two years old it is against my Swiss upbringing.

I think I may try Canon next time instead of HP. Perhaps they're all the same with a limited life.

Re: new black cartridge will not print

Hi guys,

I just took a face tissue and soaked it with hot water. Wiped the catridge head and it worked.

Althought it still not printing perfectly. Some of the words are chopped off (even after a ran clean printer head), at least the black is now printing.

Tx

Re: new black cartridge will not print

I have read every comment regarding the "black cartridge will not print"  problem and no one has a definite solution, not even the person who works for HP.  I have the Officejet 6500, and I have tried all of the above mentioned suggestions and NOTHING works. HP has a serious problem and they should do something about it.

Does HP read these comments? Or are we just posting to inform ourselves?  I am thoroughly disgusted and frustrated.  Where HP was once rated HIGH on my list of printers....it is now low on the "totem pole"!

Even if some of the suggestions worked for some of the people, we have all wasted TIME, INK and PAPER to try and find a solution.
