printer uses tri-color ink cartridge to print instead of black.

i have an officejet G4500 510n-z.  I have tri-color (which is low-ink at the moment) and brand new black ink cartridge.  Every time I print something, it defaults to the tri-color cartridge even though I would like everything printed in black and white.  I have looked for reasons why it is doing this and cannot find any.  Any one know how to fix??  Please help.

Do you currently need Tri-Color ink along with your black?  If you don't you can change to grayscale in the printing settings.

Could not find grayscale in printer setting.

When you are in the print dialog, click on the popup menu and select "Quality and Media". Then click the checkbox "print in grayscale". Then print!
