cleaned the cartridges very well . however,the ink area at the bottom of the cartridge area is gummy with black sludge, and the printing area is dusty. the pully for the cartridges has a splotchy white deposit. can thes be cleaned and how? is it necessary?

the deskjet 6840 is still very serviceable and prints perfectly when the cartridges are replaced. I've had no trouble with it even before the above cleaning.

 

hp deskjet 6840   now  i have  a wireless connection to an xp laptop and win7 cptr 64 bit  cptr
