Had a carriage alignment problem. Took me a long time to figure out another piece of the printer was loose and was blocking the very end of the carriage. Than the ink was out, having disipated during that time. I just replaced all the ink. But the print quality is terrible. Its so light i can barely read it. black is the worst, but all seems affected

Hello frodoc, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see your printing is too light. I would love to help with that!
I would suggest performing a power reset. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also suggest following the steps in this document on Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality Problems.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

It helped, but did not clear up the problem. No black. When I got to the part about checking the cartridge vents, I realized that there appeared to be sticky adhesive (from the removed tape) over that area. I had bought a 4-parck of all the colors and the others removed fine (& worked). This one, however, although i tried to clean that area, i suspect some may be inside the vent which is impossible to reach. It does not work. Those cartridges are expensive.

If the cartridge itself appears to be damaged, I would suggest contacting HP directly. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide .
