Hi there, a small black plastic piece fell out of my printer. I believe it holds up the ink cartridges or something because when i try printing something it sounds like it is dragging. usually it wont even let me try to print - something about the ink cartridges are not detected or something. how can i fix it without taking it in or buying a whole new one?

Please read this post then provide some details.
Also when possible add a picture of the part that fell out. Use the insert picture buttotn when writing a reply to do this.

I have a similar issue. A black piece L shaped piece fell out my printer HP J4550 while I was trying to pull out jammed paper and now it doesn't work well. I am attaching a pic of the piece. Please help.

I would recommend to call HP Tech Support for further assistance to see what other options are available for you.

but I went to HP's support site and looks like I can email them only if the printer is still under warranty. It is 3 years old, so out of warranty by now I assume. If I could get some hints as to which part of the printer a piece like this can be found in, or get access to some repair manual or some pics of the internals, I may be able to put it back in.

The photo is now showing of the part that broke out of the printer., before it wasn't viewable.
Here is a url for the Officejet J4550.
This is the manual for the Officejet J4550.
Hope this helps.
