Officejet 5740 s/n [edited]
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

My 5740 is less than 6 months old. I inserted a new black 901 cartridge and a new 901 tricolor cartridge and printed a few pages.

I now am getting an error for ink catridge problems stating to remove and reinstall, first the black, and now both cartridges. I have reinstalled them multiple time and have rebooted the printer twice.

What more can I do? This printer has been working pretty well until this point. Thanks.

Hello @Mikega, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I see you are having cartridge issues. I'd like to help!

I'd recommend starting by removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.

I'd also suggest following the steps found here in this document:

A 'Cartridges Missing' or 'Ink Cartridges Problem' Message Displays on the Control Panel

Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. If this resolves the issue, click Accept Solution below, so others can find the answer.

I am having the same problem.  I have changed ink cartridges, performed a power reset, making sure the copper surface is clean, etc. and still have the same problem.  How do I fix this?
