Officejet 6700
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, yesterday I upgraded my Windows10 64 bit. Today I tried to scan some paper but I can't, cause the printer was inactive.

It was wifi connected but inactive. I tried many times then I decided to reinstall the drivers via HP Support Assistant. No way. the process did not complete. I reset the router and connect again, I tried an ethernet cable, with no results. HP support suggest tu use AIO Printer Remote and HP Scan & capture and finally it works....but  I'm no loger be able to use other scan progarm (e.g. Paperport) that don't recognize a Twain scanner.

Please help

thanks

Hello, @fuzzillogik - Hope you are well 🙂

Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I understand that you are facing issues while scanning using the Officejet 6700 printer. Do not worry, I’m here to help 🙂

This certainly looks like an issue with the software. While I greatly appreciate your efforts in updating the drivers via HP Support Assistant, let’s try the more direct approach. Follow the steps here;

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL41871/mp-109007-3/OJ6700_1315-1.exe to install the software.
  • Select the “Wireless” option in the connection window and follow the on-screen instructions.

Let me know if that helps!

Good luck 🙂

No way. Still the same error at the end of the process.

Reading the forum it seems to me that many other people have the same (or very similar) issue.

I believe it's due to Windows update :mansad:

Hello, @fuzzillogik

Thanks for the update & Appreciate all your efforts 🙂

I still have few more steps that might help us fix this issue. First, try and disable / pause your firewall / antivirus and then try to install. If you have any firewall or antivirus installed, disable them temporarily and then try to install.

If the issue persists, then follow the steps in my above post to completely uninstall and remove the printer drivers. Once done, then follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Run window again by pressing windows logo key + R, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
  2. Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
  3. Do the same for the following services: Windows Installer, and Shell hardware detection - Restart the services and make sure the startup type is automatic.
  4. Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
  5. Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well.
  6. Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL41871/mp-109007-3/OJ6700_1315-1.exe to install the software.
  7. Select the “Wireless” option in the connection window and follow the on-screen instructions.

I'm sure that will yield you a positive result! Let me know 🙂

antivirus and firewall disabled. No changes

Windows Installer Manual is grayed and I can't select Automatic

Can't find Shell hardware detection Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication (Italian Version)

I'm afraid i'm going too deep and make the situation worse.

Hello, @fuzzillogik

Appreciate your efforts 🙂

It might be possible that the Italian names / version for Shell hardware detection,  Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication might be different and hence you cannot find them.

I would hence recommend you install the Windows built-in drivers for the printer. Go to http://hp.care/2bYE4kP and follow the "Step 3" for instructions. Follow the steps under "Wireless or wired network connection (Windows 10, 8)".

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂
