Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I used to be able to click the printer icon on my desktop and find my ink levels immediately. For some time now, this has not been the case and every time I need to check, I waste so much time trying to find trhem. (I know, I should write down what I did last time, but I never do). Can anyone tell me what has happened and what I can do to make it easier to find?

Thanks for your help with this. I have now found out that I can check ink levels via the HP scan doctor.

You can check the ink levels as shown in step five of the document here.

Check the estimated ink levels in Windows.

  1. Load plain, white paper into the input tray.
  2. Make sure the printer is on.
  3. Search Windows for your printer model name, and then click the printer name in the list of results.
The HP Toolbox opens in a new window.
  4. Double-click Estimated Ink Levels.
The Estimated Ink Levels window opens with gauges for all four ink colors.

Thank you for your reply to my query, Bob. Unfortunately, this does not solve my problem. The ink levels are still not showing.

In the steps above where do things fail?  Is there an HP Toolbox found?

When you click on the ink levels do the levels show as "?", empty or unknown?  If so this can happen if you are using third party or refilled cartridges.  The ink levels only reflect the amount of HP ink originally installed, once this is depleted the ink levels may show up as empty or unknown even if the cartridge is refilled.
