Sorry to hear everyone including myself are having this same problem with the printhead.  It appears there is no reasonable solution but to purchase a new printer.  Does anyone know how to at least bypass the error message so tha I could at leat use the scanner function?  My ink cartridges were low, would rplacing the ink cartridge with new ones correct this problem?

Hi @firebuma,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips, Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you are getting an error message "The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed" on your HP OfficeJet printer. Don't worry I'll try my best to help you with this,

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a hard reset on the printer.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test page and check if it works.

Please follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Officejet Printers - 'Missing or Failed Printhead' Error - Click here

If the issue persists, I would suggest this could be an issue with the printer hardware. Please fill in the product details to get the tech support number.

Thank you for yur assistance, but the solution you had suggested did not work.  I went online to find other solutions and found it was recommended the printer be serviced and the printhead be replaced.  To much of a hassle, I think I am going to purchase a new Epson printer instead.

Is it possible to at least bypass the error message on the printer display screen so that I could at least use the one touch scanner function on the printer?

Would low ink cartridge cause this printhead problem?

Hi @firebuma,

Thank you for replying,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

I'm afraid this seems to be a hardware issue with the printer printhead as it's non-removable. You could try to press the Esc (Cancel button) and check if it helps.

If the error pops up, I would suggest the only option would be to contact our HP phone support for further assistance. Please fill in your product details to get the tech support number.
