@69crs, have your run the sfc /scannow command to check the Win8 system files?

Hmm, I can't remember, I will check tomorrow

So, I ran the sfc /scannow, deleted and reinstalled all drivers, bought usb cable, lan cable, I tried everything but same thing is happening, the only files that are printing at reasonable speed are text files. I saw to many people complaining about this on the internet, to bad hp specialists couldn't handle this, so I will get my printer back and I'm really sorry that I have to do this.

I had the same, very frustrating problem (excruciatingly slow printing of pdf files), and can add some information that I hope will help HP and others to, at least, rule out some of the suggestions that have been suggested.

The problem has not been consistent, in my experience. One day, I cannot print a pdf at anywhere near a normal speed, and the next day, I can print the same file in a few seconds. I also noticed that when the printer was being obstinate about printing, it also could not scan two pages from the document feeder without hanging indefinitely.

Perhaps we can rule out these four suggestions:

1. It is not isolated to wireless. My connection is with a network cable to the router. For the same reason, the problem is not caused by distance to the router or because of wireless interference, like metal shelving, or because of loose usb plugs.

2. It is not isolated to Windows. I am using an Apple Macbook running OSX 10.10.3.

3. It is not likely default router settings, since so many users have not had the problem using the same router with different printers.

4. It is not likely the application doing the printing, since the problem occurs using different apps on my Mac, and different apps on other users' Windows apps.

What it might be:

1. It might be an internal firmware issue (a bug) on the printer, where, for example, its memory is not getting flushed, it is in a software loop, referencing unintialized pointers or variables, or an error in memory addressing. Lending weight to this option is the fact that occassionally, the problem is resolved for a while by a power reset, or after the printing process times out (to the next day, for example).

2. It might be a problem with the HP drivers implementations running on the host computer. HP software engineers would have to have a common source code set for Windows and OSX, since the problem is manifest on both platforms.

This is really a problem that HP has to address seriously.

@dvdt, are you running the FDP1CN1502AR firmware on your 8610?

I just got this printer and I'm having the same issues. Something that helped mine was in the print dialog box of my pdf program I told it to "print as an image". This cut the print time in half. Not perfect, but far better than before.

Follow Up to My Previous Message:

I contacted HP regarding this via their online chat feature. The HP rep was able to take control of my computer and fix this is less than 5 minutes. They were excellent! All he did was go into the printer settings and give it a static ip address. Then went into control panel and changed the port for that printer to that static ip address. Once he did that, everything works perfect. Printed over 100 pages of pdf since then and it prints exactly as expected. Hope this helps everyone and again, thank you to hp customer service.

my printer is already setup with static IP address. it worked great for a week, now it takes 10 minutes to print a test page.  Is there anything we can do to fix it or is this 8610 just a piece of junk?

By test page do you mean one from your computer or the test page from the tools/menu on the printer?

Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.

a windows test page by going through the properties, a test txt file, a test word file and a test pdf file, all taking over 10 minutes to print.
