I can confirm that the HP Scan version 4.4.1(21) that comes as part of this Deskjet 2540 download
Laserjets: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02241610
Inkjet Windows 7: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04249080
Inkjet Windows 8: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04249080
Inkjet Windows Vista: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04249080
Inkjet Mac: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04249334
works with my Officejet 6500 e709n all-in-one printer/scanner on Mavericks OSX 10.9
I simply used the HP Installer to "upgrade" HP Scan to this version, rebooted, added the scanner and tested.

I tried this, but with a NEW installation of a 6500 to a Mavericks machine - no luck, I am afraid! The scanner is still not recognized...
So.... my question to HP is:
Are you still working on getting these printers working with Mavericks - or not?
If I don't get a formal, +ve reply and a time scale, then I guess I will need to buy a new printer - and guess what brand it won't be???!!!
