HP Deskjet 6540
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello,
how can I align the printheads and make cleaning the printheads of a HP Deskjet 6540 on Windows 7?

I can not find the options. They are available on Windows 7? I have prints with white stripes...

Thank you

White stripes would not be caused by a cartridge alignment issue.  The cartridges will automatically align when a cartridge is replaced.

Are the stripes in black or color?  Before running cleaning cycles (which use ink and can shorten the life of the printer) I would first remove the offending cartridge and clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and in the printer with a lint free swab.  A foam covered swab or clean damp coffee filter san work well for this.

If that does not resolve the issue you can force some tests from the front panel as follows:

  • Turn on the printer and wait for it to be stable.
  • With the power on press and hold the power button.
  • While holding the power button quickly press and release the X button the given number of times, the press and release the formfeed button the number of times.
  • Release the power button, then the selected operation will occur.

With the above process the following are available:

Alignment page:         X=0, FF=3

First Level Cleaning:   X=2, FF=0

Second Level Cleaning:  X=2, FF=1

Third Level Cleaning:   X=2, FF=2

Nozzle Diagnostic:      X=8, FF=4
