Photosmart 5510 all in one ... Mac OS 10.6.8
Changed cartridges two or three days ago. There was a problem with black ink at that time, and HP support (who is closed now until Monday) advised running clean print heads function from the printer's touch screen, which I did, and the black came back.
Tonight, however, I've been printing ... added new pages to print, hit the print button and the black was streaked and skipping. Did the "align print" ... did the "clean print heads" ... still not printng black. Printed all the test pages, etc. On printing the "configuration page" from the computer, the rectangles of red, blue and yellow ARE bracketed in BLACK!!!! The colors are all printing fine. Have taken cartridge out, yes, it still has ink in it. But there's no black printing at all on regular print jobs either from the computer or from the printer itself.
Am desperate ... I work from home and can't afford to wait until Monday until HP offices re open.

ok, so I see I'm not the only with with this stupid problem.
I'm seeing this problem popping up on lots of HP printers ... nice going Hewlett Packard.
I'm happy to disassemble my printer (i'm really mechanical that way <~~~ SARCASM) ... and dunk that one part in the hot water ... but ... can someone please tell me how to unhook that thing the cartridges ride around in????

Thnaks for the tip but that didn't work for me. Does anyone have another idea ? I am on o new black cartridge and getting really peeved with this all in one .... one month out of warranty !

I think u r not specialist if u offer us to replace expensive cartridge and got same situation as was before.
Just agree HP made mistake with configuration of printhead like this and need change printhead free in all countries.
I made all recommendations that i found in internet for last couple days and no one helped me. I even try to order new printhead in china. all is loose (((((.
If u wanna help - give me printhead partnumber for order it in HP.

The HP Photosmart 5510 does not have customer replaceable printheads.

check your warranty period ... I did and called HP who provided a solution , a replacement printer was required. I got one with starter set of cartridges and all now works ...
thanks to HP even if the problem should never have arisen.
