I have the exact same problem. I have reset the printing system, installed the drivers, and created a preset. Still, I have to go into the settings/options menus to check the "duplex" box AGAIN EVERY TIME in all applications.  I would greatly appreciate a fix. I have an HP Officejet 6500A Plus and Mac 10.11.5.

Hey @europas_ice,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you are having some issues with the duplex option when printing from your Mac OSX 10.11 machine to your Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer. I can help you with that.

To sort this out:

  1. If the printer is connected through a USB cable to your Mac, remove it.
  2. Click on your Apple icon, System Preferences, and Printers and Scanners.
  3. Hold down the control key and click on the icon of the printer on the left.
  4. Click on Reset Printing System.
  5. Restart your Mac.

Now, if you removed the USB cable, connect it. If not, click on your Apple icon, System Preferences, and Printers and Scanners.

  1. Click on the plus button in the corner.
  2. Click on your printer in the list.
  3. Click in the box next to Use and select your printer from the list.
  4. Click on Add.

At this point the duplex option should remain active. If it does not, the next step would be to contact Apple Support directly. You can do so by clicking on this link

Please let me know the results after following the above. If you are able to correct the duplexing issue, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.
