Windows 10 / HP 5530 printer visible, ping-able but "Unsuccessful network installation" - workaround

(FYI)

Problem: A Windows 10 laptop (previously Windows 7) would not install wireless HP 5530 printer by use of HP installation software.

(Other laptops, still running Windows 7, installed the same printer software without problems. All computers had until then been using a HP 5510 without problems.)

The printer could be 'seen' by laptop ,via router, within the installation software dialogues, but "unsuccessful network installation" was reported: that is, after identifying and selecting the printer over network, installation 'spun' for several minutes until failure was reported. (Installation by USB connection succeded, but still thereafter no success in wireless installation over network.)

Printer was ping-able from laptop all the time, and test page was printed wirelessly by means of the HTTP printer (e.g. 192.168.1.x) settings web page.

Firewall(s) was dropped and newest drivers from HP web site downloaded - however, installation still failed at the same stage each time.

Workaround: In Windows 10, from Start menu:-

Settings\Devices\Add Printer or Scanner\Printer I want isn't listed\Add by TCP/IP address [use IP address identified from the printer's settings display or print-out] - tick box for driver automatically chosen by Windows.

(In other words, add the printer as a shared printer without using HP installation software at all.)

Result: the printer was available wirelessly (after reboot) on the laptop - apparently as a shared printer - and normal wireless printing was possible.
