I cannot get my HP Envy 4500 to print. Computer can't find it. Every setting has checked out and a computer guy suggested I check both PC and printer have same ip address. How do I do this please?

Cheers

John

The computer guy was not correct - the IP addresses cannot be the same for any two devices on a sub network.  Typically the first three sets of numbers will be the same, the last will be different.  For example, your computer may be 192.168.1.103 while the printer is 192.168.1.107.  You can find the IP address for your computer by opening a command window (cmd.exe) and typing:

IPCONFIG

This will report the IP address for the computer.  You can find the IP address for the printer from the printer's control panel.

Running the diagnostics at http://www.hp.com/go/tools may help resolve the issue.  Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  Make sure both the printer and computer are connected to the same network.  A common issue in our crowded society is a printer (or computer) connecting to a nearby router, perhaps from a neighbor, rather than your router.
