Product: Office Jet Pro P8500 Premier
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

why does my Hp Officejet Pro P8500 keep cycling it self and wasting ink I have run through the cleaning, alignment etc.. and it shuts down like sleep mode then when I get to print it wakes up and starts cleaning process and in doing this wastes expensive ink.

The document here describes how ink is used.  At startup and shutdown the printer will go through a servicing routine to keep the nozzles clear from clogging.  One thing to do to minimize this - make sure you always keep the printer plugged into a live outlet.  If you use an external switch to turn off the outlet the printer will lose track of time and do a more aggressive cleaning at startup.
