I had this issue and realized that I had printed with a different(offline) printer selected. Deleted that doc from queue. print to online printer. printed.

this happens to my OfficeJet Pro 8500 all the time; a new expensive printer; very maddening; my only solution is to turn the printer off and on and let it reboot and clean the ink cartridges; this takes time and wastes ink of course; I know of no other solution; and I've searched for one.

You can try to add the printer icon again. As suggested by most of them.
Go to print & fax
Press and hold control key and click on the printer icon. It will give you option for reset printing system.
Click on that.
NOTE: It will remove all the printer icon on the print & fax window.
Now, once the printer icons are deleted.
Click on + sign. It will list your printer.
It will take a while.
it will list the printer with kind as bonjour.
Select it and click on add.
If incase it not list your printer.
You can click on + sign again.
Click on IP tab.
There select protocol as "HP jet direct"
Address as printer IP address
Queue name empty
Print using "select printer driver"
click on add.
Make sure printer is default. Hit and print.

Go to system settings and select the ‘Printer’ option.
Right-click on the printer and enable the ‘Use Printer Online’ function.
Cancel all the printing jobs till that moment and redo the process.
Sometimes the ‘Printer Offline’ message occurs due to a ‘Job Stuck’ issue.
Check all network connections and functions.
Be sure the network interfaces work properly.
Turn the printer off and on to see whether the device is working properly.

C4580 and macbook on wireless network. printer prints network test and network configuration with printer connected to network,status ready,signal strength excellent. also i am able to get a print from c4500 all-in-one series homepage (firewall is off) but i get a message saying PRINTER IS OFFLINE when trying to print from mac.. can someone help me fix this?
