OK, here are a few more ideas:

1. Make sure the router has the latest firmware.

2. Make sure you are broadcasting the SSID and are not using MAC filtering and are using WPA or WPA2 security.

3. Make sure your router has 802.11g wireless mode enabled.  Other modes (like 802.11n) are ok, but 'g' must be present.

somethings flakey...

i came home from late meetings tonight and the printer was connected to my network.

i tried printing from a wired machine and from my wireless laptop and it worked.

now back to a previous problem... i try to print from our new HP which is also wired.  doesn't work.

When printing a test page from the printer config dialogue and i once again, get the error code 0x00000057.

i ran the diag and get the follow:  (NancysComputer is the wired computer having the problem)  (See below.... Thanks !)

more updates.  if anyone wants to try and suggest a resolution.

i uninstalled the printer from the computer that couldn't print a test page, but gave a 0X00000057 instead (whatever that means)

disabled all firewalls (the diagnostic suggested this)

reinstalled printer

the printer installed properly as a network printer  ( awesome! ... you'd think)

the printer shows up in the list of Windows 7 printers

tried to print a test page -> same 0x00000057 error and NO printed test page   😞

tried to print from other apps

- Open office lists the printer as a possible printer, but won't let me print to it 😞

- Wordpad prints fine  🙂

- Notepad prints fine 🙂

- PDF prints fine  🙂

- print from IE8 or Chrome browsers -> only prints the time stamp header and file footer of a page, but NOT THE PAGE CONTENTS ... strange  😞

HELP  🙂

HP Recommended

actually I CAN wirelessly print from Chrome without any problems.

IE acts strange and I wonder if I've got some kind of Windows 7 issue.  In IE8 when I do a print preview it only shows the time stamp on top and file name on bottom of the page to be printed.  So, that's what prints.  Regardless of wireless or USB printing.

USB works with everything.   But I really want to use the wireless printing with the HP computer...  (BTW wireless printing works from my Dell (XP) and Lenovo (Win 7)...)

I have seen this before - strange behaviors that were finally cured with a re-install of Win7.  Its not that bad, just make sure to have a thorough backup before you begin.

169.254.X.X IP indicates that the printer is no longer connected to your network.  Does the printer have a strong signal from the router?  Have you changed the channel to 11?

You tell us what to do, but not how to do it.  Like usual, trying to find useful information on this forum that actually works is a waste of time.  Considering that you are a HP employee, I can understand why looking for help is a waste of time.  My advice:  Never buy a HP product again.......waste of time and money.
