It seems like I have to include a "1" before the area code when sending or recieving faxes on the MFP. Has anyone else found this to be the case?

Does that mean when I give out my fax number I need to emphasize that a "1" must be included before the rest of the fax number?

The "1" in front of the phone number has not to do with the printer / fax machine.

The prefix is apparently a requirement of your phone company service.

In our own metropolitan community located in the Western United States, we must now dial a many digit code just to call someone down the street.

Example:

1 + area code + local prefix + phone number

1         333                 123                  4567

The need arose when the area codes (333) and the phone numbers (123-4567)  assigned within a given region were effectively exhausted (too many numbers required for too few available combinations).

From a land line (like that used in the printer / fax), it is necessary that we prepend the "1" and the "area code", followed by the phone number.

In our area, calling from Cellular / Mobile requires the "area code" and the 7 digit phone number.

Please contact your local phone compay / phone service provider to verify!
