Okay, thank you for the tip, dallas101! I'll try it when I get home. 5 good print outs are better than none. But, really, HP should beef-up its quality control and design.

I'll admit Im on here as well with the same issues but lets face it hp may have its problems but honestly for those who think they will never buy another hp I say to them if its a laser printer you canp beat hp period and ifs ink jet you can't beat Epson Ive been reparing printers for 12 years and this my opinion from my experience.

Thank you for the continued communication on this topic -- I forgot to tell you my SOLUTION!!! A few moths ago, the toner ran out of 3 cartridges in my HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni. After I replaced them, EVERYTHING PRINTED OUT JUST FINE!!! I was amazed, but it worked! I think the misalignment happens when the toner cartridges get too old and start to slip around inside the rack. I tried all of the solutions mentioed in this string, but none of them worked. Finally, when I was forced to replace the toner cartridges (the three color ones -- I had already replaced the black one last year) because I could not afford to buy a new printer and I needed to get a report done, voila! The red and all the other colors printed out nice and sharp and in perfect alignment!
SOLUTION TO COLOR MISALIGNMENT: REPLACE THE OLD COLOR CARTRIDGES.

Hi threre, I just finished working on a customer's HP CP1518ni with this same alignment problem as most of you are describing. I went through a few processes and I think I found one that works... hopefully it will work for
you as well.
Things I tried before hand... also this machine has all HP brand toners at 90+ life on all of them.
- calibrate - did not fix problem (tried it once)
- nvram reset - did not fix problem
- removed and inspected print cartrides (no problem found), re-installed - did not fix problem
First go to HP's website and download the firmware, make sure you select the correct operating system
that you are using. (for me it was Windows XP) Also make sure read requirements, I believe you have to
have SP2 with XP otherwise there maybe issues, always read instructions before doing firmware.
here is a quick link to the CP1518ni...
Next, assuming you have the correct print driver installed, double click the firmware utility you just down-loaded and select the CP1518ni from the drop-down list. Now press the "send firmware" button. It will
take a few minutes so just let it do it's thing. After it's done try printing something, for me it was NOT fixed.
Now you want to calibrate the machine, possibly 2 or 3 times, on the control panel scroll to the right till
you see "systemsetup" press ok and scroll to the right again till you see "print quality" and press ok;
the first item in that menu is "calibrate color" press ok, now it will say "calibrate now" and press ok one
last time. It will start the calibration process. After it's done print something again to see how it's doing,
for me I had to do the calibration process twice before the quality was normal again.
Good luck, hopefully this helps some, I have read that some printers still presist even after this process.

printerfixerguy brilliant and it fixed my 1525nw.
I had been about to lauch the lump into the bin as all other 'fixes' had bombed.
THe guy who suggested buying a new set of cartridges needs to have a word with himself, why would anybody spend £150 or so just to see if it works?
I updated the printer software, updated the firmware and calibrated colour twice as alreadt mentioned BRILLIANT

ok, I see the contacts, let me work with that. I used to be a laser printer expert at Burroughs and 25 yrs exp in IT, so I might be able to do some good if you buys can point me. Also, is there a way that I can override the auto cal and cal this thing manually?

This did not work for me. I upgraded from FW 20110329 to 20131028 and calibrated three times but no such luck for me.
Report tells me that 2160 prints of which 2034 in color.
It seems a very expensive replacement for my previous misaligning HP CLJ 1600 that was even more expensive....
Good luck to all of you misaligned
