Thanks Buddy,

Worked like a charm and saved me the expense of purchasing a new printer.

This manual only kind of works for me - after I installed my 1020 in Lion 10.7.3 it is only printing one or two pages and then stalls. I have to turn it off and on again and am then able to print one or two more pages.

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?

Thank you for the very useful information. I too had been using the HP 1020 for years with my old Mac using OS X 10.6 and have just migrated to a new MacBook with Lion. Another 1020 has been saved 🙂

"The refusal to support this product is nothing more than a money grab to force users to buy new equipment, despite owning an otherwise fully functional printer."

A common misconception and I wonder why HP (and other manufacturers) doesn't/don't do a lot more to dispel it.

The fact of the matter is it is APPLE who decide when to discontinue support for older model printers when the OS increments a version number. Steve Jobs' control freak mindset said that Apple, and Apple alone, will control the hardware drivers for Mac OS, and so HP said fine - here's the APIs, go ahead, do your worst.

It's out of HP's hands. Look at how many old printers are still supported under Windows 7 and you will see they acknowledge their printers do keep going forever. Apple has this "f(*&^ you" attitude - "naah. It's too much like hard work to update those drivers. Buy a new printer."

I've used the HP Laserjet 1020 with my MacBook Pro for a couple of years. Found a fix online for driver. Now I've just gotten a new computer and am trying to figure it out all over again.
